The Ladies were Daughters Too is an in-person presentation based upon my latest book of the same title. Each presentation, however, is customized to the locale where my presentation is given. My book begins with a history of a group of determined women in the 1850s who, against all odds, formed a national organization for the purpose of saving the tomb and homeplace of our Nation’s first President. The Mount Vernon Ladies Association cracked the infamous glass ceiling – but it also set the stage for another organization of patriotic women to follow. My book moves on next to The Daughters of the American Revolution, an organization formed in 1890, but in 1892, received a surprising kick-start from still another assembly of very determined American women. Called “Lady Managers,” the temporary organization of national women was led by an extraordinary lady well-known to Florida, but never really acknowledged for her role in establishing the National Society of the DAR.
